A little more about Lauren…
Hi, I’m Lauren — a student midwife to be Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and will be opening my practice, Sonder Midwifery, early 2027.
My path into midwifery began long before my clinical training through years of supporting families as a birth doula and birth photographer. Those experiences gave me a deep respect for the emotional, physical, and transformative nature of birth, and they continue to shape the compassionate, supportive approach I bring to care today.
I am currently completing my Bachelor of Science in Midwifery through Midwives College of Utah (MCU) with a plan to complete my last few classes in early December. I began my journey at MCU in January of 2023, and throughout my entire time in schooling, I have been training in a high-volume home birth practice under my preceptor who is an experienced CPM as well as occasional clinical experiences at a free-standing birth center under experienced CNM preceptors.
My education at MCU has included comprehensive academic coursework including emergency skills preparation, complications throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and lactation, newborn care through 6 weeks of life, and a large variety of other midwifery specific topics. Through my clinical training, I have attended 80+ out-of-hospital births of which 35+ I was the primary midwife under supervision (ie the baby catcher), 400+ prenatal appointments, 50+ newborn exams, and 50+ postpartum appointments, and have supported families through a wide variety of clinical situations including physiologic breech birth, variations in labor and birth presentation, complex decision making, miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss, maternal mental health support, and emergencies during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
My other training includes:
StillBirthday and Doulaversity doula trainings
Spinning Babies
Neonatal resuscitation (NRP) certification
CPR and BLS certification
Breech without Borders
Continuing education on shoulder dystocia, hemorrhages, and suturing
Herbal, homeopathic, and pharmaceutical training for various indications and situations
I believe trust is built through honesty, education, presence, and truly listening. I approach care with calmness, critical thinking, and deep respect for each family’s unique needs and values. My goal is for clients to feel safe, informed, and fully supported throughout their experience, never rushed, dismissed, or reduced to a standard protocol.
As a mother of three, I understand how vulnerable and important this season of life can be. I know that families are not simply looking for a provider, they are looking for someone they can trust in one of the most intimate and life-changing experiences they will ever have.
